What to Expect
Expert Legal Staff
The legal staff at Indy Legal Aid is uniquely qualified to provide services. All Legal Aid attorneys hold a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA‐accredited law school and are licensed to practice in Indiana. All are qualified mediators, three are trained Guardians Ad Litem, three are trained in Collaborative Law, and one holds a Masters and PhD in Social Work.
Types of Cases
The majority of the legal issues that Indy Legal Aid addresses involve the interests of women, children, and the elderly. We also handle a significant number of cases involving housing, landlord-tenant, driver's license reinstatement, and a host of other miscellaneous issues.
Indy Legal Aid does not handle fee-generating cases or criminal matters.
Making an Appointment
To setup an appointment with Indy Legal Aid, please call (317) 635-9538. The phones are very busy in the morning and immediately after lunch so please keep that in mind when calling. We do not take walk-ins, however will will assist with an appointment. When making an appointment, we try to set an appointment with everyone as soon as possible.
Please bring the following to your appointment:

Our receptionist cannot provide legal assistance.
When you Arrive - All client interaction can be done in person or over the phone.
When you walk into our office, you will be greeted by our receptionist and you will be asked to sign in. You will then wait for an available attorney. The wait is usually less than 15 minutes; however, some days the wait might be much longer depending on the number of clients and the complex nature of cases presented to our attorneys on any given day. For reasons of confidentiality, other family members or friends who come with you may be asked to remain in the waiting room.
When you first meet with an attorney, he or she will collect information about you, your case, your income/assets, and your family. The attorney will discuss the details of your case with you, and then evaluate your case to determine whether Indy Legal Aid is able to assist you.
Indy Legal Aid provides services free of charge to individuals and families with incomes of less than 125% of the federal poverty guideline levels. If your income is above our guidelines, you may be referred to a member of our Lawyer Referral Service. If there are other reasons we are unable to assist you, the attorney will discuss additional options you may pursue.

The office is located in the English Foundation Building, 615 North Alabama Street Suite 122.
